In my sophomore year in Garnet Valley High School, I sheepishly entered a poetry contest for fun. I did not realize that by entering into this contest, I would have the privilege of becoming a published writer! My poem, My Dreamcatcher, was one of the writing that was selected to be published in a book titled Treasured.
Honor Roll.
I have maintained either Distinguished or Honor Roll since sixth grade until present in Garnet Valley School District. Honor roll is very important to me, as my grades have always been a priority in my life. In sixth grade, I received four awards at the annual Awards Ceremony for my grade, and the feeling of accomplishment, as well as intellect, overwhelmed me. I continue to strive to maintain the type of student I crafted myself to be when I was in sixth grade. I have been a determined, hard worker ever since,
Lion of the Year.
My karate school has very infrequently had a steady location. When I began martial arts, I started in a small dojang next to a gymnastics facility. After moving locations to Glen Mills, my karate instructor left to start his own business, and three new instructors take over his place. The leadership began to weaken and weigh on mostly one instructor, Master Coleman. Master Coleman eventually decided to branch off and start his own business. He ran the name by my sister and I: "Master Coleman's Lion Force Martial Arts," and showed us the logo design. We absolutely loved it. As his first two students and black belts, we helped Master Coleman shape the atmosphere of Lion Force, teach classes, and build a strong and encouraging environment for whoever walks through the door. Master Coleman pronounced my sister and I as his "lions of the year." We were the first individuals to ever receive this award, and it represents all of the key virtues of a black belt such as respect, humility, leadership, perseverance, integrity, and indomitable spirit! I will always be humbled by this prestigious award and remember the huge steps we took with Master Coleman at the very beginning of Lion Force Martial Arts.
